A new transit connection links Wellness Center residents to jobs, medical care, education, and the entire Victor Valley transit network
The Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) is expanding public transportation access to one of the High Desert’s most successful homelessness response initiatives by extending Route 31 to directly serve the Victorville Wellness Center, providing residents with reliable, daily transportation to employment, healthcare, education, and essential community services.
Since July 5, 2026, Route 31 travels from the Victor Valley Transportation Center (VVTC) to the Victorville Wellness Center before returning to the transit center, allowing Wellness Center residents to conveniently transfer to VVTA’s extensive regional transit network. The new stop on Route 31 is served throughout the day on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The Victorville Wellness Center, which opened in December 2023, is a low-barrier, non-congregate interim housing campus developed by the City of Victorville through a $28 million HomeKey grant from the State of California. The 170-bed facility provides temporary housing, on-site medical care, behavioral health services, case management and other supportive services that help individuals and families transition to permanent housing. The campus also welcomes pets, removing one of the most common barriers that prevents people experiencing homelessness from seeking shelter.
The City of Victorville contracts with Symba, a nonprofit organization, to operate the facility and provide residents with essential services, healthcare, and comprehensive wraparound support.
The Wellness Center has become a cornerstone of Victorville’s homelessness response strategy. As a result, the City’s unsheltered homeless population has decreased by 68 percent over the past two years, while the overall homeless population has declined 28 percent, according to the latest San Bernardino County Point-in-Time Count. Victorville’s overall homeless count is now the lowest it has been in six years, and it is the only High Desert city to record a decrease in homelessness since 2025.

“VVTA is proud to expand transit access with the introduction of daily service to the Victorville Wellness Center through Route 31,” said Rod Goldman, Chief Executive Officer of VVTA. “Reliable transportation is essential to helping people access healthcare, employment, housing opportunities and other vital services. By connecting the Wellness Center directly to the Victor Valley Transportation Center, we’re removing transportation barriers and helping residents stay connected to the resources they need to build a brighter future.”
“Our Victorville Wellness Center is successful because we have strong community partners, like VVTA,” said Victorville Mayor Liz Becerra. “The City of Victorville is extremely grateful to VVTA for expanding bus service to the Center, which increases access to resources that are making a difference for our community’s most vulnerable.”
“VVTA’s new bus stop at our Victorville Wellness Center will make it easier for our clients to get to off-site employment, educational programs, housing opportunities, and supportive care appointments, serving as an important support system for their journey to wellness and stability,” said Victorville[MD1] [CA2] Homelessness Solutions Manager William Lamas.
The new Route 31 service reflects a growing recognition nationwide that transportation plays a critical role in addressing homelessness. Access to reliable public transit enables individuals to attend job interviews, maintain employment, keep medical and behavioral health appointments, pursue education, and connect with family and support networks; all essential components of achieving long-term housing stability.
Route 31 serves key destinations throughout Victorville and Adelanto, including the Victor Valley Transportation Center, University Preparatory School, Desert Trails Preparatory Academy, shopping centers, and residential neighborhoods. With direct connections at the Victor Valley Transportation Center, Wellness Center residents can access dozens of additional destinations throughout the Victor Valley and beyond via VVTA’s Route 15 service connecting passengers to Barstow and the San Bernardino Transportation Center.
